Exploding bombs, burning cities, chaos and fear, hunger and dying seas—if God could ever come to earth, now’s the time. I don’t believe anyone is riding in on a white horse to our rescue; I'm too cynical for that. Still, inspired by historic paintings of Christian miracles, I decided to toy with the tantalizing idea of mystical intervention.

In the painting, our modern Madonna is living in a symbolic contemporary landscape. 

The icons of our civilization are in various states of destruction below her apartment window. As she studies Tarot cards on her floor, an angel floats in her window to announce the happy news, "You’re the big winner honey.” Behind her on the right side of the painting, hyper-surreal physics explain what has just happened—as if human hopes and dreams could ever be written as an equation.
